The En-ROADS Climate Solutions Simulator – A Engaging Climate Change OER

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

The free online En-ROADS Climate Solutions Simulator (https://www.climateinteractive.org/en-roads/) allows anyone – policymakers, educators and students, businesses, the media, the public – to test and explore how different climate policies might lead to achieving climate goals along with other Sustainable Development Goals through an equitable transformation.

MIT professor John Sterman says, “Research shows that showing people research doesn’t work.” Rather than inundating with facts and figures, En-ROADS allows learners to explore, interactively and dynamically, how different policies like carbon pricing, new technology innovations, and incentives for renewable energy, efficiency, and natural systems restoration can interact and contribute to an equitable transformation.

The En-ROADS simulator is ideal for any OER-based climate learning program. It’s freely available online, supports 20 languages (with more translations to come), and supported by extensive open licensed training and facilitation materials to apply En-ROADS in workshops, role-playing negotiation games, guided classroom assignments, and for self-directed learning. Peer-reviewed studies of these climate simulator activities have shown substantial increases in understanding of and motivation to work on climate solutions.

In this 60-minute Wildcard session, we’ll introduce the En-ROADS model and its supporting OER resources, have a brief En-ROADS workshop together, and briefly describe the other ways (role-playing game, guided assignment, self-directed) to teach and learn with En-ROADS.

En-ROADS is developed by Climate Interactive in partnership with the MIT Sloan Sustainability Initiative. Session presenter Curt Newton (Director, MIT OpenCourseWare) is an experienced En-ROADS Climate Ambassador who’s facilitated En-ROADS activities in many educational and community settings.
